Since we we have a horse in the race, I will surely be active on the forum come M10…so I’ll do my best to keep things organized. It was really cool to follow that thread a few years back where you could watch various and sundry forum members’ results come in…to cheer or comfort.

Here’s a link to the 2011 thread, which I consider to be the most organized of the past few years. Note that the thread was started on March 7…NOT weeks in advance like last year’s.

Yeah, it does need to be started a few days before M10 as some schools and some kids do get results prior to. So, 7D, why don’t you clone the 2011 acceptances format and get it started a day or two early. M10 is Monday next year so, thankfully, we shouldn’t be dealing with all the angst about how the schools were going to handle notifications on a weekend.

(Nice: the thread you posted also has a link to the BB codes if you click the word “here” in that first post that will teach all the new posters how to get the fancy effects in their posts.)

stargirl3: Schools that use electronic communications (most?) will post results to applicant’s accounts regardless of the day M10 falls on. Some schools, like NMH, may notify on M9. I haven’t see any U.S. schools that do not notify on M9 or M10; there may be some, but they aren’t the ones most frequently mentioned here. In any case, electronic communications go out on time regardless of the day.

For schools that notify via Fed-Ex, the day also doesn’t seem to be an issue.

If you look at the results postings for M10 for the past few years, it appears that U.S. applicants reliably get their electronic or Fed-Ex notifications on M10, but the duplicate snail mail communication may arrive a day or two later. Financial aid notification may also arrive later; not every school links admission results with FA results and may send those separately.

GMT needs to chime in here regarding communications for international applicants, but it seems that by the end of the day on M10, everyone has their admit/waitlist/reject notifications with just perhaps the FA info lagging over the next few days.

As always, the schools themselves are the best sources of accurate information. Check the websites for current info, call if it’s not clearly posted.

Int’ls get notified electronically, even if it’s a snail mail notification school. The snail mail letters eventually do show up in your mailbox.

You should get more specific information from the schools leading up to M10.

Some sent e-mails to parent and kid at 6:30 AM (Exeter) with subject line something like “Welcome to Exeter”, followed by a hand written snail mail personal note card from your AO with a lot of personal detail about what the committee was impressed with . that arrived a few days later.

Deerfield sent a beautiful huge watercolor poster of Deerfield, which arrived a few days after M10, along with a Deerfield pin and a form letter.

Andover sent a fed-ex full of blue stuff - stuffed animal, PA t-shirt, stickers.

Hotchkiss was the friendliest, with warm personal letters of encouragement coming almost every day.

Some schools wait to send e-mails or allow log-in until after 3 PM to avoid school day hysteria.

So their styles of trying to get you to choose them differ!

Deerfield also sent a mailing tube of green m&ms, and several personal hand written notes (including on that form letter). No teddy bear though

Many schools are electronic - at least for admission. Some are at midnight, some early in the morning, some at 9am. They will tell you what they plan to do in the weeks leading up to March 10. Last year March 10 was a Sunday, so many schools sent emails/packages on Saturday. But there was a big snowstorm in New England which delayed some deliveries - FedEx and USPS. If there is an electronic notification they will also send a letter, and often send FA info via snail mail or package.

In 2013 Andover just had papers in the FedEx box. They gave out t-shirts at revisit day. One local school sent a nice package with a copy of the Odessey. Other schools sent pens, car stickers, etc. - small items in their acceptance packets.
