We are going to be on vacation from March 10-20 and will not be home to receive any of the boarding school acceptance packages (fingers crossed!). What is included in these packages and how important was it as your family decided which offer to accept?
The acceptance package is awesome to get of course but don’t sweat it if you are on vacation. They basically have an official letter saying you are in and explaining how difficult it is to get in. They also include some fun things such as stickers, candy, confetti or other promo items. The most important thing is info on revisit dates. I urge you to revisit the schools you are accepted in prior to making your final decaison if you can.
I dont recall any stuff–I think it depends on the school. Some schools send you an email with notification followed by a mailed letter with contract.
All 11 of our decisions were sent via email or portal. & these were just yes, WL, or no) Our acceptance packet was received about a week later and included FA amounts offered and contracts, like @Center indicated. If you aren’t there to receive such packets, no biggie. If you aren’t there to not receive such packets…bonus. Fingers crossed your mailbox is full, though!!!
Not to much in the way of Tchotchkes - a shirt (very nice v-neck tee, not attending there) and a stainless cup. A few things at revisits but not really too much.
So on M10 do you also receive FA information with the decision or is it separate?
^ours was separate. We just got the yes, no or WL on M10. FA came with mailed packet.
I see, thank you!
My son went thru this 4 years ago, so things may have changed, but here is a summary from my memory:
- Andover: sends a fedex packet that arrives on M10 with a folder, acceptance letter, and handwritten note from the dean.
- Choate: admission packet is received about a week after M10. Pillowcase, poster and a folder. M10 only thing available is online.
- Taft: brochure with acceptance letter on M10
- Lville: nothing on M10 except online. Packet a few days later
- Hotchkiss: folder with acceptance letter, handwritten note and details on revisit days. Arrives M10
- Deerfield: sends a tube, filled with green/white M&Ms, poster and an acceptance letter. Arrives M10
You may also get phone calls starting M10 from the admissions office, coaches, current parents. We didn’t apply for FA, but I think those letters come later. Hope this helps
EDIT: I found an old post of mine that went into some more detail. See here http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/18109217/#Comment_18109217
Do any schools send packages/brochures/decision letters via snail mail internationally? I live in the Middle East.
