M10 Parents' Edition the try-not-to-freakout-thread

Hello everyone. I am up late getting some work done and also of course impatiently waiting for M10. I have been lurking and reading your posts to know I’m not alone in the latter. :slight_smile:
A few of those raise the question I now have and if this belongs in a different section of the board, my apologies… I am still kind of new. My daughter took the SSAT last spring, I’d say April I think. She was in seventh grade and scored 95%. It was my understanding that schools would only accept grades from her eighth grade year so she retook it and scored 87%. Of course what’s done is done but now my curiosity is piqued. Should we have also submitted last year scores?

@heelsdown I would say it would probably have been better to submit them both. But what’s done is done, and 87% is still a respectable score.

@Korab1 thank you for your response. I still like to learn about the process.

According to my AO friend at a top day prep school in Boston, they are done. Now they just have to wait until 3/10.

@laenen you wouldnt happen to have any friends in admissions at some of the top boarding schools in the Northeast, would you? :wink:

@Korab1 , no. :slight_smile:

Just got an email from Blair announcing admissions decisions would go out at 6 am on M10. I wonder what the other schools will do.

Wow - you know its getting close when the schools start notifying you of the release time. In 9 days there will be some very happy and very disappointed people around here.

Millbrook 6 am March 10 as well. Must log in to a system.

@makp715 and @MAandMEmom : What kinds of videos?

Now that we have hit March, I just wanted to say good luck to everyone!

@CaliMex it is a 1 minute, private, YouTube video that shows something about the applicant that wasn’t on the application. Some of the videos are public if you search Hotchkiss admission or candidate project you can find them. One kid sings, one plays sports, a few do quick drawing, one from last year played with a yo-yo in a barn with cows (I totally wonder if he got in). Basically it’s a good chance to show who they are.

At least, I hope that’s the part you were asking about.

That yo-yo video is incredible! I want to know what happened to that kid? Where did he end up?

Today must be the day – we got emails from 3 out of 4 schools so far indicating how decisions will be communicated, but none have given a specific time. Based on how my stomach feels just seeing these emails pop up, I expect to be pretty much incapacitated on M10.

The YouTube videos of my DD were for her sport and playing an instrument. Nothing professional though!

Regarding times, Exeter was there when we woke up at 6 am followed closely by all others except Andover and they were having a problem with the Gateway portal (so it was something like 6pm but we didn’t receive a package so we knew she wasn’t in there). The others were in alpha are Deerfield, Hotchkiss, Loomis Chaffee, Suffield, and St. George’s School. We knew something was headed our way the night before from Hotchkiss.

St. Andrews: they are mailing decisions that will arrive on M 10. Accepted students will also get an email “by 6 pm.” Berkshire says they will have results on the portal on M 10 don’t give a time. . . .

Berkshire also said that they had received 1200 applications!

@hardy8635 for how many spots???

405 total students; so approx. 100?
