I'm hoping someone out there is familiar with this field. I majored in undergraduate studies in Art History and Japanese Studies. I've worked for a university art department as a studio assistant/manager for about 5 years, and for a Japanese non profit for about 2 years. I really would like to relocate to Seattle, and get work at one of the great Japanese arts and cultural organizations there. I am seriously considering a Masters in Arts Administration to help me get there, and help me be a greater asset to whatever organization I work for. However, I'm just terrified of more student loans. Would any of you out there recommend pursuing this degree to have a better outlook, or just going out there and applying? I'm really looking for advice, so any thoughts are greatly appreciated. Thank you so much in advance...

I honestly think you should just start applying for jobs in Seattle. If you’re finding it difficult to apply from afar, then move there (if you have the money) and job hunt.

Only if you are finding it difficult to find a job, and you’re noting that most jobs you want require or recommend an MA in arts administration/management, would I get one. And at that point, I still might just move out to Seattle, work for a year and establish residency, and then attempt to go to UW-Seattle’s MBA program.

Thank you for the response! I wasn’t sure how much experience one would need prior to applying, and if the competition is fierce with that MA program there. It’s actually one of the less expensive programs and tuition appears to be the same for a resident or non-resident. Thank you for your thoughts, I’ll definitely consider that.
