Mac or PC in college?? Any opinions please...

The pricing of Apple computers is not worth the purchase in my opinion. A cheap Dell deal or even a Lenovo Thinkpad will provided better value.

How portable is the 15 inch Macbook Pro? Would it be a hassle to transport it in a backpack? Can it fit in airline trays?

I've seen several pepole bring it to class. I'm using the macbook (not pro), and I take it everywhere.

The MacBook Pro is awesome. I have it and it fits on anything. I've seen people use it in class [where the "desk" is that folded side arm thing]. It's not that heavy... so you wouldn't have trouble transporting it.

It's very light and thin for a 15" one, I've had no problems carrying one around.

how is the battery life on the macbook pro?

I have the 15" powerbook, and it's very easily transportable. My battery length is over 3 hours on teh settings I use when it's plugged in. Could very likely get more time out of it if I played with the settings to make them more energy friendly.

Turn your brightness down, it saves battery life.

The only problem I have with laptops (except the old ones) is the heat generated by either the battery or hard drive.

I average around 3 hours on battery, but that's with wi-fi on and bluetooth off.

Portability is great.

I get about 3.5 hours, carry it with me everywhere (and I cross an international border every day). Definitely the most portable laptop I've had/used/experienced

It's more portable than any windows-based laptop, I assure you that.

The thing's made of not very many parts, so there's less likelyhood that you'll get it caught in something while moving around.

I don't know about that...

This is funny. I discovered that..if u buy a white Macbook (the middle range educational discount one)..and upgrade(on apple store online) its RAM and hardrive to 2GB and 160GB respectively the final price is much less than the black macbook which has the same config as the customized white one.

I don't care about the color......is there any potential probs for customized white macbooks??????

it sounds too good to be true....

Um the reason for the price diff is the color. If you get the white one its not gonna explode or overtake the world. At least I don't think it will.

Sunlight will reflect off the white casing and blind you.

I'm not sure, but I'm getting the white one.

According to salespeople I talked to at Best Buy, the keys of the white notebook turn gray easily due to hand grease. And it gets dirtier quicker in general, for obvious reasons. I personally do prefer the white one...it's pretty (I want a Mac).

not the keys, but the place where you rest the palms of your hands, surrounding the keyboard. it's really easy to clean, though, so no sweat. the only thing that bugs me about my white macbook is that it scratches easily on the outer case, but alas.

Yes, dirt can be a problem. But the white gets soooo much more attention.

It's a ploy to get more money. There is no benefit other than the color. In my opinion it is a total waste.
