mac or pc

I'm planning on buying a new laptop for college....do more people use mac or pc....

This doesn't directly answer your question but Vandy has a special program with Dell. You can purchase either directly from Dell or from the Vandy bookstore at a substantial discount. The latest program was for the Latitude models. Something to keep in mind.

I don't think a computer is something you want to purchase because of what is "popular"... they are both somewhat different as you probably know... Its all about which one is better for you... Personally I prefer pc's as do most, but many also love macs...

I know that a lot of engineering programs run solely on the PC. If you're an arts and sciences major, Apple may be better for you. When I visited I saw far more Macs than PCs.

Hey! I'm a freshman at Vandy this year and I have a Macbook Pro. I absolutely love it and it is completely compatible with everything at Vandy.

If you are in the engineering school you should go with a PC because of their software and requirements. However, all the other schools support either and it comes down to personal preference; both are all over campus, though as previously mentioned, Macs are very popular. I haven't had any trouble with mine at all, and you can get an academic discount on the Macs as well. :)

How is the computer tech support at Vanderbilt?

Will they/Can they help students with computer issues if the student does not have the recommended Dell?

Engineering students use the program Matlab. Matlab for Mac is readily available. There is no reason not to get a Mac.

I had a Toshiba laptop my first two years and then switched to a MacBook last year - no particular reason other than I prefer Macs.

I also prefer taking a computer to the store where I purchased it, as opposed to using Vanderbilt IT or another store. (Please don't take this as a criticism of the IT at Vandy - for warranty purposes I just prefer taking it to the "professionals.") If you decide to go with a Mac, there is an Apple store at Green Hills Mall - a 5-10 minute drive from campus.

Also, just a minute detail against macs, Vandy allows you to have free access to Ruckus to download free music, but it doesn't work on Macs

engineers use pcs, peabody recommends macs/gives discounts to students who buy macs through them, and A&S doesn't care.

I agree with the person before about the ruckus. I have utilized that to get over 5000 legal downloads over the past six months which is pretty awesome.
