Are engineering students required to register for the "engineering-only" sections of Calc 1? I'm currently undecided about my major, though engineering is something that I'm considering. Would it be a problem if I took a regular section of MAC2311 now and decided to choose an engineering major later on?

I don’t go to UF, but I know a little bit. As far as I can see, it’s possible to go from a non-engineering major into engineering, but it’s a pain with the req. classes. I think you’d be better off starting as engineering. Because it’s a lot easier to go engineering—> something else than the other way around.

OP: Even if you are an engineering major, you do not have to take the engineering calc sections. :)

zebes, that’s what I thought at first, which is why I let my Preview adviser select Computer Engineering as my major, thinking it would give me more options. But when I try registering for different Calc times/profs on ISIS, the only ones that I can switch into are the engineering-only sections. If I try to register for a regular section, I get a prerequisite/temporary enrollment restriction. Unfortunately all of the engineering sections share the same lecture, so basically the only thing I can switch is the discussion.

I’ve heard that from other new engineers as well. It was never that way for us, so it must be a new policy. Guess you’re stuck in the engineer section, bet it’s a better class (Though less cute girls).

Major switches shouldn’t be taken lightly, since they have to be approved. Just take the engineer class.

They probably want you to see an advisor for moving purposes, but it can be done. D started with Calc 3, and she didn’t have any trouble signing up for straight calc, non-engineering section. I’d see an advisor and have the hold removed if you really want to move.
