Macalester College class of 2020 ED

Hey Guys, I just submitted my Early Decision application to Macalester and I thought I should create a thread.

D applied ED, after much consideration between Michigan State’s Honors College (accepted), UofM (applied EA), Kenyon (did not apply) & Oberlin (did not apply) …33 ACT, 3.95, strong EC’s, recruited athlete. She’ll not exhale until she’s in and the money comes back at what the net price calculator and meetings with Financial Aid indicated. She loved the feel of Mac, the people were ridiculously kind (yeah, Minnesota nice is the real deal), attentive and genuine. The administration has been fabulous - much more helpful than any other schools she visited. She felt like she’d be happiest there.

I’ve been checking in on this thread and nobody has said anything so I figured I would input some basic information.

GENERAL: White. Male. Gay.
NUMBERS:
32 ACT, 2160 SAT, 4.65 GPA weighted, 4.0 unweighted.
EXTRACURRICULARS: Not much really. The basic school clubs, community service, etc. Hopefully it’s not too much of a killer that I don’t have much depth in this category. I guess we’ll find out soon enough.

I live far away from Macalester, so I’m the only person I know that applied. Figured I better prep a little now and meet some people??? Hopefully we can get this thread going a little.

Does anyone know any information on admissions decisions? I know it should come in the mail on the 15th, but maybe it’ll come a little sooner? Wishful thinking I know.

Just for record’s sake, I have been accepted! Financial aid package is very generous. I’m ecstatic! They also notified me that I have received the DeWitt Wallace Scholarship worth $18,000 per year. Very pleased!

@lvstudent Congratulations! I hope you consider Macalester! Feel free to message me if you have any questions. I am currently a first year Mac student.

D was accepted, with a generous merit offer (her #s appear above); Wallace Distinguished Scholar and Dewitt will take care of half of the total cost. Other aid as well, so she’ll be going, and is very excited!

Kept my eye on this board for a little while. Decided to apply ED and saw my acceptance today, especially happy about the financial aid. If anyone’s interested in my general stats: IB, 1820ish SAT, 4.3ish GPA weighted (don’t remember exactly), 3.8 unweighted, decent amount of extras but none this year except for community service. Drop me a message if you want to know anything more or just want to talk!

@georgecarlin thank you very much! I just might take you up on that if I think of anything.

Accepted ED2!!! 2230 SAT (CR770, M660, W800), 3.5 UW GPA, not ranked. Lealtad Merit. Mac 2020!!!

How nice that Mac is giving merit scholarships to ED students. A lot of schools save all their merit awards to dangle as bait for the RDs. This speaks well of Mac. My S is an RD so I know this will weigh in Mac’s favor if he gets in and has to make a choice. Congrats all!

@MrdrprofT hi can you elaborate more on your stats and are u an international student or american ?

My daughter is considering Mac for early decision and I’m interested in the generosity indicated here re their merit scholarships. We fall in the area where we will not be awarded financial aid but the tuition is not possible without a significant merit scholarship. Oberlin gave my daughter an “early read” for early decision with an indication of how much merit she’d receive. Does anyone know if Mac will do this? Her potential coach indicated she’d get into Mac, but we need to know that merit piece if going to decide ED… anyone have input?

I’m applying to Macalester as ED applicant too :frowning: Super nervous since there are quite a large number of my nationalities at Mac (international student here) Anyone applying to Mac ED this year as well?
