So yeah, what the title says. I visited Mac on a sampler about a week ago, liked it quite a bit but I don't know if thats just because its college or because its Mac. I won't have an oppurtunity to visit BC before I have to make my decision however. How are they different? What are the pros and cons of each? What is the student body/ classroom setting like at each? Social life?

bump

Both are great schools, but they have different vibes. Macalester’s students are more focused on changing the world, while Boston College’s are more pre-professional. To some extent, that’s a false dichotomy, as there are plenty of Mac students who go into professions to have an impact on the broader society, likewise BC students. Still, you’d find cultural differences overall, with more intellectually-oriented and progressive-minded students at Macalester.

Two excellent but very different schools. I’d really try to visit BC if at all possible. Two reasonable people could be attracted to different schools based on their interests etc. Some differences offhand:
Location - outside Boston v St, Paul
Size - LAC v mid-sized university
Religion - Jesuit v secular
Core curriculum - don’t know about Macalester, but all Jesuit schools have a sizable core
Offerings - BC has some pre-professional choices such as a business school
