I'm tempted to get the basic MacBook, $949.00, which comes with a free 8GB iPod touch (and $100 printer). I don't plan to use my computer for hardcore gaming/designing/things like that, and I need a new MP3 player and printer.

Should buy it? Or am better off buying those things separately? I want a laptop that'll last me for at least 4 years.

The basic MacBook should last four years, though it might be a bit slower by then, given the additional demands placed on computers over time. This sounds like a good deal, since it matches your needs.

Any computer will run “a bit slower” after four years of use.

It’s a good deal. Buying things separately, you’d spend $230 on the iPod, and $100 on the printer. Subtract that from the laptop price, and you’ve got $620 to spend on a laptop. I’d take a MacBook over any $620 laptop out there

Of course, these are rebates, so you’re going to have to front the cash for everything at first. (They’re quick with the rebates, though)

Alot of times you can just buy from macmall or macconnection and get it cheaper than with the educational discount, as you dont pay tax and they usually have rebates.

i’d go with an education discount on the newly updated 13 inch macbook “pros.” an ipod touch is really convenient, so is a printer in your room, which both come free with an awesome computer.
