Macbook Pro for Mechanical engineering?

Hi, I'm going to be studying mechanical engineering this fall.
I was gonna get a macbook pro, but I heard some programs aren't compatible with a mac.

Granted, the first two years will be mostly GE, but I'd rather buy a laptop and keep it for all my college years.
Or is it better to switch it in later?

Anyways, do you recommend a macbook pro for mechanical engineering?
If not, what other laptops would you recommend?

Knowing what your expectations and plans with your laptop are is essential if we are going to help you.

I want a laptop that I can use in other classes and for other projects, including web-streaming and video watching. The most important part is that it’s compatible with engineering programs and that it can last 4 years of college. So basically, I want to know if you’d recommend a macbook pro for mechanical engineering.

You wont be using Professional software on your laptop, the generously affordable ones will still be several hundred dollars… each. Others can be thousands. So quite apparently you’ll just be using the University’s computers for programs. Still, contact your school’s department and find out whether they have remote access or something that may lean either towards PC or Mac platforms. Either way though, your university does not expect you to drop loads of money on professional programs.
