Machen and Meyer talk of rising above tough times

<p>Machen reflected on the university’s accomplishments at a time of budget cuts. He cited UF’s record number of applications for the fall semester, up 16 percent from the previous year.</p>

<p>“And heck, we didn’t even win a national championship last year,” he said.</p>

<p>He said limits on enrollment have forced selectivity that has led to the most talented freshman class ever.</p>

<p>Unofficial numbers show entering students had an average GPA of 4.18 and SAT score of 1293, both record highs.</p>

<p>The figures show the “University of Florida continues to make great strides, even amid the great financial challenges that are facing our state and our university,” Machen said.</p>

<p>Admited or committed to enter? If admitted, we're slipping. If this is the entering class, that is an impressive 33 point increase.</p>

<p>It says entering. I don't know for sure though.</p>

<p>So this doesn't indicate if the data is merely "admitted" or a more reliable evaluation.</p>
