We will be arriving in SC from Texas. I am shipping lots of stuff. From the Welcome Week website, it looks as though the res halls will accept student packages the week before OOS check-in. Does anyone have experience with this? Where are the packages kept?

And, sorry to be so dense, but, what is the Mailing Address convention? D will be in Porter Hall, but on her housing assignment it says: Room xxx, Porter Hall, Pollock Halls. Should her mailing address be:

Suzy Q
xxx Porter Hall
Pollock Halls
University Park, PA 16802

or

Suzy Q
xxx Porter Hall
University Park, PA 16802

I am having books sent from Amazon.com and want to be sure to get the mailing address right.

Thanks for your help!

I have sent many packages without any problems. The student just goes to the mail center in the Pollock Dining Hall for pick up. The Mail Center sends the student an email via elion to let them know they have a package for pick up. To address an package or letter,

Student Name
Room Number, Residence Hall
University Park Pa 16802

By the way… they just “tell” you that they accept packages a week before check-in, because they don’t want to accept a massive load of packages and have their place filled up with stuff. You can send it anytime you want. I always mail 2 large boxes (~50 pounds each) back home at the end of the year and not go to the post office to pick them up when I get home. I let them send it back to the “return address” and the commons desk will hold it for me until I pick it up in the Fall semester. This method is a lot cheaper than Box My Dorm or any storage company.

Classic NYC wisdom.
Heard a story about 20 years ago about a NYC resident who wrapped his garbage up like presents during a garbage strike. Just left the car unlocked and windows down for an hour or so and the garbage was gone.

I suspected that they would allow shipping to the commons before that pre-week, but no one would verify. They just kept saying that it was impossible to store newly-shipped stuff with summer moving out and fall moving in, so the most they would commit to is a week before for storing packages.

Now, I know the real skinny. Thanks!
