major before dental school?

I did some research on the requirement for dental school but I was a bit confused. Other than chosing biology or chemistry, what other majors are good for students who want to go to dental school? Is dental hygiene a good one? How about biomedical engineering? Im torn on which major to pick! Thank you guys for any input!

Long story short: Any major is “good” for dental school.

Long story: Dental schools (and med and pharm schools) don’t care what your major is. Most of them have a set of Pre-requisite science classes you need to take for admission, but other than that you can do what you want. Say you majored in Art History, all you would have to do is take the dental pre-reqs (Biology I & II, Chemistry I & II, Organic Chemistry, Physics, Calculus).

From here dental schools look at several things: your cumulative GPA (what GPA you got overall in your classes) your science GPA (grades you got for those specific pre-reqs) and your DAT scores (test covering all of those science subjects). If all of these are good, you’ll most likely be admitted. So major in whatever you want that interests you as long as you get good grades in your Pre-req classes and get a good DAT score.

PS: The advice above applies to all Professional schools (Dent, Med, Pharm, Podiatry, etc). For dental school specifically, maybe consider a Business major since you’ll be running your own practice most likely.

thank you for your advice,it really clears my confusion.are these pretty much all the classes a student needs to take upon the entrance of dental school? since i will be major in bioengineering, i would asume that all these classes you have mentioned would be included in my curriculum. but i dont know if i am going to change my major or not. how do you think about dental hygiene?
