Hi so few days ago I found out I was admitted into Cockrell school of Engineering, but my major was electrical engineering because my parents wanted me to major in that area. After few hours of talking with them, I convinced them I wanted to be an architectural engineer. So my questions are...

1) can I change my major after I was admitted to UT austin??

2) If i do change it, will this affect my admission??? (Like can i be rejected after I changed my major?)

3) Do you think changing major within the same school is easy???

1) I know you can only change it once online
2) Most likely no because it is within the same school but if you are you will probably just remain with the same major you have. I read somewhere that everything in engineering was full
3) It should be but don’t stress too much, your 1st year is primarily your basics anyways.

ArchE is the hardest department to get into. You can ask, but I would be surprised if you could switch now. You could take basic courses your first year, and if you get excellent grades, you might have a better chance of switching then. Call the ArchE office to see what they say, though.

^^I’d follow this plan. One son has a friend who is switching majors this way, from a CNS major to an engineering major. An outsider’s perspective, but it looks like if he does well in his classes and keeps his eye on the ball he will be able to do this.

I believe that ArchE and Architecture are the most selective groups in the entire university. I wonder if I would have gotten in now! I got my BS in ArchE in 1984. It’s a good degree for people interested in buildings and not in highways, drainage, or other civil types of design. The only problem is that people think I’m an architect, which I’m not. I had to take two semesters of architectural design, which showed me I have very little talent for it! It made me appreciate architects more, though.
