Hey guys, I am stuck between taking ap stats and java or ap USh. Which choice should I go with? Is stats and java together harder or easier than USh alone? Thanks

Can’t speak to AP stats, but I’ve taken both APUSH and Compsci.

They’re both equally challenging, but in very, very different ways. APUSH is more about retaining information, understanding context and reason, and being able to craft a concise essay that gets across the point well in less than an hour.

Compsci focuses on logic; can you follow the trail to get the correct answer? You can memorize the formulas and methods all you want, but you need to have a strong grasp of logic to really crack open some of the problems. It isn’t a class that’s memorizing heavy, besides your foundations. Practice is key-if you don’t practice making programs for this test, ESPECIALLY YOUR GRIDWORLD, you will fail.

The difficulties depend on your strengths. I thought APUSH was relatively easy, and compsci extremely challenging. My friends thought the opposite.

So ap USH is probably a better way to go? It is memorization heavy right? Does it look good for colleges?

APUSH is one of the most common tests, so in terms of “standing out”, it’s not really that important. However, it’ll usually get you out of a freshman history class, which can free up a considerate bit of your schedule.

Yeah, it’s a memorization based test, but you’ll fare a lot better if you think of it in terms of cause and effect than memorizing the date of the battle that happened in that one country.

If you’re not a history/social sciences person, I wouldn’t suggest it. There’s some seriously dry stuff in there. What grade level are you at?

APUSH requires a lot of writing. It has a lot of reading and homework to do, but it will also improve your writing.

^Depends on the teacher. Writing was mostly done for essays in class, and even then we didn’t do many of them.

Now AP Language? THAT class made my writing much, much better.

AP stats was a joke for me(got a 5) and so was AP comp sci(got a 5 when everyone else in my school gets 1). I can’t speak for APUSH since I didn’t take it, but I did take AP world, which I thought was SUPER hard. Lots and lots of work and essays and the test is pretty much a crapshoot of hopefully getting the time period that you know best(I got a 4). If APUSH is anything like that, I would think AP stats and AP comp sci would be better, especially if you are STEM oriented like me. :)

Took APUSH and Stat my junior year at a top-50 high school, and it was very manageable.

APUSH was an easy 5. Cram the Brinkely text the weekend before a test and the AMSCO book a few days before the AP and your set. Doesn’t matter if your teacher’s complete crap since it’s on you to engrave the text into your brain. Essays are harsh. I had about two 2-hour assignments a week, which weren’t that bad.

I gotta agree with zhulagirlz… Stat is an absolute joke. There is just so little material and it can all be taught in about a month. It was taught over the course of A WHOLE DAMN YEAR at my school and the material was annoyingly diluted, so we were practically learning the same thing for about a week. My teacher was a nice lady who taught it well, but there was very little teaching to do… I would recommend getting a Barron’s as it mimics the exam perfectly, and will get you that 5 and A/A+.
