Hey guys, Do you think a downtrend in my Math Grade would affect my chances in getting into college especially if I major in some field of Business. I saw my transcript yesterday and realized it was really bad because in 9th grade I had A’s then in 10th I had B’s and now I have 2 C’s in pre-calculus and they’re both C-'s, Also I know for business you should take calculus classes but I signed up for Ap stats next year, should I change it and try getting a C in Pre-calc because i’m really not sure.
Yes, your math grade will definitely affect your chances for college admissions. Even if you apply for a business school, you still have to get through the school’s admissions (and then another separate admissions process for the specific school, stuff like Wharton of UPenn).
Getting C’s is definitely not the best in terms of college admissions. You still have a whole month and a half, maybe try to raise them to B’s. B’s look so much better on transcripts than C’s, so focus on getting the B rather than worry about what will happen if you get the C.
Thanks for replying, and yes I have calculated that even if I get an A this six weeks, my grade for the whole semester would still be a 78%, do you think I can raise my chances with a good SAT score tho.
I think that for some kids precalculus is the first math class in which they really struggle to comprehend the concepts. My son, now a senior, has never been a strong math student, but had B+ averages until this year. As the year goes on in precalculus, he understands less and less, and has dropped from a B+ the first quarter to a C+ the last two quarters to failing this quarter. I’m just hoping he can end the year with a C average. I do think that for a junior, it would somewhat affect college admissions. It would also depend on which schools you plan to apply to, and on your standardized (SAT/ACT) math scores.
@yolopad of course doing well on SATs can increase your chances, but it will not give you a free pass on the Cs. But looks like you can’t do too much at this point (except bump your grade out of the C- range) so work hard for SATs/other classes.
