I am still undecided, and I would like to hear recommendations and thoughts ideas about what to major at Stern.

actuarial science 2. BS MS degree in accounting

On one hand, I am very into math, so Actuarial science sounds good; but then I dont want to be so narrow.

Also, hows the BS/MS accounting degree? whats the difference between this and the normal accounting degree?

If you are into math, you can also try to double with Finance and Math. It’s working out well for me.

A regular accounting concentration requires you to take Financial statement analysis plus 3 random electives (total 12 credits). After that you are all set for the concentration assuming you’ll complete the other required core courses.

The Bs/Ms accounting program prepares you much better for the CPA exam. You’ll have to complete a lot more courses than just a regular undergrad accounting concentration. Take a look at this http://w4.stern.nyu.edu/uc/advisingdocs/BSMS_Acc2015.pdf.

And for the full virtual info session: 2012 BS-MS Info Session Presentation%5B/url”>2012 BS-MS Info Session Presentation]2012 BS-MS Info Session Presentation

Hope this helped.

After looking into the stern requirement and math major requirement(I have done 4 out of 12, 8 more to go), I am not sure if I can finish both Finance and Math in two years(rising junior here)

I’m not an actuary but some of my good friends are. They have great jobs, love what they do, and do what they love.

Sounds like a plan to me. If you’ve got the aptitude, go for it.

Actuarial jobs, as VeryHappy mentioned, are very nice. Great pay, great work-life balance, and the work is stimulating (if you like math). Since you do, I’d strongly encourage you to give that more of a look than accounting, which doesn’t use math beyond algebra.

Finance/Math majors are another option, the career opportunities will be different though.

How does an MD/MBA degree sound, it too hectic? And what courses does one have to take in undergrad and how many years?
