I have just been admitted to SMC (Santa Monica College) with hopes of transferring to UCLA in two years. Can someone tell me what majors have the highest chance of admission into the College of Letters and Science? I’ve looked at the admit rates, but just wondering if anyone has firsthand experience. Thanks for your help!
@Marcyteach12 if you’ve looked at the admit rates then you have all the information anyone outside of the ucla admissions office will have. Keep in mind that admit rates are not perfect measures. You’d need to know not just the average gpa and scores of applicants and admits but their distribution. This info is never published. Furthermore since admissions are holistic then they also look at factors that are not publicly revealed. Bottom line is you can come up with a coarse sense of how hard admission is by major based on what you’ve already looked at, but that’s probably the best you (or anyone else) can do.
You should look into the TAP program at ucla that gives preference in admission to Letters and Science. Also the counselors at SMC are quite experienced with xfer since they are one of the largest sources of ucla xfer students, so you should be meeting with counselors and attending their info sessions right from the start of your time there.
@10s4life may be able to answer this.
There’s a list of public admit rates. I am not 100% sure as I don’t really work with transfer admissions that much. My advice is pick a major you want. It’s hard to swap majors as a transfer. And major matters more for careers than your school
I’m gonna move this to the UC transfer forum. @Ohm888 can point you in the right direction
Here you go - Transfer admit rates by UC school for each major:

I’m not sure how anyone else will give any better answers than this chart.
