I was wondering how much my chances for admission might improve under a different major choice. Currently, business is first and psychology is second. Admittedly, my class rank is at the bottom 50%, and now know there is little chance for business. Would selecting psychology first and undeclared second have a chance at improving things? Any less competitive majors that are a possibility?

just a word of advice, i would say that changing your major to undeclared would be an easy way to get in and then you can change to your first choice major second semester. if you could say what your other stats are, i could better say what you should do!
I applied undeclared and have been accepted and my stats are
Top 25%
3.53 GPA at a VERY competitive private school
29 ACT

Business Admin is full. I got my decision a few days ago after submitting a day or two before the deadline. If you’re borderline you might not hear for a little while. If you get in and psychology is full, you’ll be put in General Studies.

yeah it took me a while to hear back from A&M because when i first submitted my application, my ACT score wasnt a 29 it was a 27 and then after i improved it, i heard back within 2 weeks!

Right now, I’m just hoping for the best in regards to my decision. I’ve read that the high school quality/rigor/reputation does play a part, but I don’t know the extent to which they do or do not consider this relative to class rank within my specific hs versus others.

Yes, according to admissions business administration is full as already stated previously. I was told it wouldn’t matter whether I changed majors or not, since if there is no room in a particular major you would be defaulted to general studies. Apparently getting accepted applies to A&M as a whole and not to each specific college.

Your act score and gpa make it seem like your school is really competitive. do you have a big class size? also, did you do all three essays, any recs, or have any extra cirriculars?

The class size is over 550, but less than 600 people. I did only the two required essays, and have no recommendations. Part of me believed the chances were slim to begin with, and also due to my poor planning, I just barely got the required documents in before the deadline. I think just comparing myself to the other kids within my class made me less optimistic about getting into a good school, when my stats would be more than ok from another person’s viewpoint coming from a different school. As for ECs, I have several hundred hours of volunteer/community service hours performed for a school organization as well as within the local community during the school year and also in the summertime.
