I recently read in the JHU student handbook that in order to be in the Whiting School of Engineering (WSE) I had to put an engineering major on one of the two majors asked in the Common App. Just to see if I could get in my dad told me to put in BME as my first choice - I strongly objected to this but he convinced me to go with it - and physics as my second. As expected I was not accepted in the BME program but I was accepted into JHU. Does being rejected from the BME program mean that I am not in the WSE and that I cannot declare a major in engineering in the future? Or can I declare my interest in majoring in engineering during my freshman year? I am really hoping to major in physics and chemical & bimolecular engineering but now I am unsure if I can still take the latter major.

Yes, you can be rejected from BME and still major in ChemBE or any other major in WSE.

There is absolutely no issue switching from school to school.

From what I understand, you can switch to any major (and across schools) pretty easily -with the exception of the BME major.
