Majoring In International Business

I’ve been accepted to both Belmont University (Nashville) and Pace University (NYC). I plan to major in International Business and I’m split between the two schools. Would it be best to go to school in a bigger city such as NYC where there is likely a better environment to succeed in business or is it just as good in a smaller city such as Nashville? By this, I’m talking about a great education and internship and employment opportunities. I feel like the obvious answer is NYC but it is much more expensive to go to Pace than Belmont and I want to know if the cost/benefit is worth it. Thanks!

If you haven’t already, contact both schools and speak with admissions and the career counseling dept. Does either school require an internship in your major for graduation? Does either school secure internships for their students and if so, what companies and organizations do they work with? Is your family able to cover the cost differential between the 2 schools? Do either schools offer a study abroad program or internship. What are their language requirements and what is their success with job placement and grad school admissions? Pace was always noted in the NY area for business, I am not familiar with Belmont. Best of luck.

As you know, to do an effective cost/benefit analysis, you need to know the cost of each option (and the opportunity cost), which you haven’t provided. Expected benefits are harder to calculate but you can probably make some assumptions about professional opportunities, alumni networks, job placement, etc…if you do the research.

The other thing to factor in is the option to obtain your MBA after you have completed your degree (hopefully debt free) and have worked for several years. If you get really lucky, an employer will pay for all or part of that degree. That is probably your best option unless money is not a constraining factor for you and your family.

Please provide us with
(tuition, fees, room, board) - (scholarships, grants) =
for each university, and we’ll be able to answer more precisely as ECmotherX2 and N’sMom said.
In addition, what is your parents’ budget and which other schools have you been admitted to?
