Hello everyone. I have been accepted to both Pace University and American University and I’m very happy about it because I wanted to attend a medium sized school in or close to a big city. NYC is my dream place to live and can provide with a lot of jobs relevant to my major, however American is my dream school to attend and I love my major there. Pace is going to cost slightly less too, although both schools are pretty expensive. What would you do in my situation?
My opinion is American would give you better options. What major?
How much will they cost and are u talking loans?
American is far superior to Pace.
It is easiest to get established living in NYC while attending a university there. You just learn the ropes of how the city works and how to get by there, and you make friends to hang out with and connections that can lead to a job later. You are also right there for job interviews. It will be a harder transition to go from American to getting a job and establishing yourself and a social network in NYC later. If NYC really is your dream city where you want to live, then go live there! Why wait? American may not live up to your expectations, and then you will have passed up an opportunity to go ahead and live in NYC. Is the major at American that different than what you can piece together at Pace? Do you realize that 50-70% of students change their major? If a particular degree program is the only or primary draw for American, then I would try to figure out how to get something comparable (through minors or electives or activities) while attending Pace.
Honestly, you can learn all that when you get to NYC like people have for years! DC is just a 4 hour train ride away. American is much more well regarded.
I want to major in Business, Language and Culture at American and I can obviously combine those things through minors at any other university. I just like American better as a university and NYC better as a city. Pace would cost around 35k/year and American would cost around $43/year. I am going to have to take
loans no matter where I go.
I would just like to know how things are at both of the universities with academic and social life, as well as internships availability, so I’m going to visit both of the universities this month to decide. I was just wondering if someone had to make a similar decision and what they ended up choosing.
I’m also waitlisted for Fordham and if I get accepted I would most likely go there, but I probably won’t find out until June.
Fordham is lovely. I think American is a much better choice for acedemics. Pace is kind of a commuter school IMO. Have you visited DC or NYC before?
Native to the Northeast here. Go to American for the academics - DC is just as nice of a city as NYC is.
I live close to NYC and I’m going to DC April 14-16 to see if I like it.
The only thing that bothers me a little is that I want to have a career in the fashion industry in the future and NYC is the best place in the US for fashion.
Also, if anyone has any advice on how to get more money from either of those schools please let me know, because it would be a real burden to pay 40k/year for me and my family. I got a huge financial aid package from one other school but I don’t want to go there, could I use that to ask for more money? Thanks.
It does not hurt to try. ^
Hi/. What school is better for science pre med track. Stonybrook, Fordham, or Manhattan College
My opinion American much better
For NYC, FIT would have been a nice choice for your interests.
But between Pace and American, American! You will like Washington, DC.
Pace is very, very overrated and overpriced, and they operate like a for-profit school with their feeble, desperate marketing attempts (such as calling your cell phone). Literally the only reason anyone would attend is because they are VERY desperate to go to school in NYC for some strange reason.
American all the way. You can always live in NYC later.
What’s the other school? You can only ask American to match if the college is on par with them (if they consider it a peer).
American is definitely the better school but how much in loans are you talking about?
I was thinking about going to FIT, but I realized I wanted to go to a larger school that is not necessarily fashion oriented. I took a class at FIT previously though and wouldn’t mind doing it again in the future.
