Majoring in Kinesiology...Which schools to look into?

Hello all. Im currently serving in the Marine Corps, and get out in a year and a half. Being in the military really makes you appreciate college and education. My passion is fitness and health. It's the one thing I could look at and perform non stop. I love trying new forms of exercise and working out, as well as educating others and helping them improve their bodies and diet.

My residence is in the Bay Area, California, so i'd love to attend a school in Nor Cal. Im trying to find the best college, nation wide, but preferbly in California, for majoring in Kinesiology, as well as other physical certificates and majors.

Money is no option, as my dad owes me a free ride and the military will end up paying for just about everything, so I wont bother with a job, unless its fitness related. When Im out of the Corps, my life will be education and fitness; everything else will be on the back burner, but I need to research some schools.

Appreciate your time!

Not in CA, but check out the Dept. of Kinesiology at UMD. [Kinesiology Department @ University of Maryland, College Park](http://www.sph.umd.edu/KNES/)

Another vote for UMDCP. My friend’s DD went there for that. Met the head of the dept during a visit and there was no turning back. I believe Univ of Michigan also has a good kin. program - trying to remember from when friend’s DD was applying. Sorry, no info about CA - she didn’t apply that far from home.

Most Cal States offer Kinesiology majors. I don’t believe that the UC’s offer one as standard curriculum, but you can ‘create’ your own major at most colleges. UC Davis even notes that other grads have ‘created’ a Kinesiology major.

Good luck. And thanks for serving.

U of Texas at Austin.

It isn’t in Cali but it is the best in the country for that program.

Not far from the Bay Area: Cal Poly SLO.

[Welcome to the Kinesiology Department - Cal Poly](http://www.kinesiology.calpoly.edu/)

Very interesting. Is there a way to compare a California school to U of Texas? I mean, if U of Texas has the best program in the country, then thats where I want to go.

USC has a very good kinesiology program, which is due to its #1 ranked graduate physical therapy program. many students who receive their BS in Kinesiology go on to study at USC for the DPT program. plus you get to work as a trainer for some bigtime athletics programs like the football team

What is USC DPT program? So would it be in my best interests to recieve my BS in Kinesiology at U of Texas, then go to USC for the DPT program? Im slowly mapping out my path, with the best schools.

Im happy because both U of Texas and USC are in the Yellow Ribbon program, which is a major plus (being military).

DPT = doctor of physical therapy.

in case you misunderstood my post, i was saying that USC has a great undergraduate kinesiology program because USC also has the #1 ranked graduate program in that area, the Doctor of Physical Therapy. many USC undergrads stay at USC for grad school.

Ok I misunderstood. I appreciate the information. Heh, I guess I can follow my dream of attending USC. I’ll need to spend some time to and get some info from and about USC.
