Hi, I was wondering if a current student, alumni, or anyone who knows a lot about tcnj could give me a list of majors from most competitive to least competitive. Not an entire list of course, but just general majors, such as bio, chem, physics, english, history, engineering, psychology, sociology, and teaching.

I am planning on being a psych major and was wondering how popular that was. I know that bio, chem, and engineering are pretty competitive, but what about psych. I am hoping that its one of the more relaxed ones. Thanks!
(side note: I am planning on doing ED for psych but I am not 100 percent sure).

Hey, I currently go to TCNJ and psychology is probably one of the most popular majors here. Personally, every major at TCNJ is difficult in its own ways, but psychology is definitely more lenient, in comparison to others (bio, chem, engineering). I’m pretty sure you only have to take 11 courses for the psych major (not including the liberal learning requirements), so you have a lot of time to space them out and possibly add another major/minors. Sociology is only 10 courses, and although not as popular as psych, is a really popular minor/second major, since it only requires 10 courses.
Being that it’s so popular, psych is more difficult to switch into. Biology has about a 20% acceptance rate for students who want to change their majors to it.
If you’re looking for an easy 4 years, don’t come to TCNJ, but if you’re ready for (somewhat of) a challenge and classes where you actually build connections with your professors, then TCNJ is right for you! :)

Biology is probably the most competitive, followed by the other sciences, engineering, and teaching, then psychology probably, and then all the others I’m not too sure about. From the psychology classes I took, I only took a few mid-level ones, but they weren’t difficult compared to the bio, chem, and physics classes.

Thanks guys that was really helpful. TCNJ11 especailly, what are the other liberal arts requirements that you must fulfill. And on the website, it says that psych requires 12 course units. (And yes, I think I am ready for the challenge!)

Oh, I thought it was 11, since they include psych101 in the requirements and most people I know had AP credit so they didn’t have to do it. You have to fulfill requirements such as gender, global, world views, literary/visual/performing arts, etc. The link-<a href=“TCNJ | The College of New Jersey”>TCNJ | The College of New Jersey; describes the different options students can do.
