So, what do YOU think would be the best course of action for me?
Ideally, I want to do theatre for the rest of my life. This is the ideal situation for me.
However, at the same time, I want to be practical. So a double major + minor is the best thing. My fallbacks include journalism or law (which, actually, are not that far off from acting!:))
I'm considering a double major in creative writing & theatre and a minor in poli.sci.
Is this the best course of action?
Only one school I applied to has an actual "journalism" major and I would also double in poli.sci and minor in theatre (since there is no major in theatre there..)
Another only has an english major and theatre concentration (which is like a minor there)
Any other good suggestions as to the best course of action for me?
I think it's down to this...! :)
Thanks a lot for the help!!

bump? anything?
another question: is it practical to do a double major in theatre and creative writing and minor in political science along a pre-law track and possibly decide to go to law school in four years if the theatre/journalism thing wouldn’t work out? or at least as a back-up?
i know it is possible to go to any law school with any major as long as your college GPA and LSATs are good enough. but are these majors i’m considering for next year practical for this!? thanks!!! :D

Theatre is definately not the right major for pre-law. You won’t do near enough critical, analytical, or logical thinking. I’ve met some pretty smart law students who majored in journalism (a caveat: I’m at Yale Law so these people all took time off and actually did journalism before reentering the academic world). I would say if law is something that might interest you polisci is going to offer the best preparation (another caveat: I’m fairly biased because I’m in a JD/PhD program in political science). I would say that polisci/journalism would be your best bet overall - I don’t know your theatre skills, but remember that realistically very few people can make a living off of theatre. If it’s your passion, look into a minor or just get involved for fun.

I looked at some of your other posts and see that you have applied to schools with BA theatre programs as opposed to pursuing a BFA. This is good because the two degree programs are VERY different and a BA in Theatre will certainly allow you to develop skills in critical thinking and analysis. In addition, it will be considerably easier for you to double major and will not preclude you from getting into Law School with a solid GPA and LSAT.

IMO, you should see where you get in and choose the school you want to attend first before deciding what you will major in because where you end up will ultimately determine what majors are available to you. Of course, this assumes that all of the schools that you applied to have majors that interested you to begin with but you seem like a smart girl and applied to some top schools so I would imagine that you did your research.

You have a lot of career options based on your interests. Performer, playwright, novelist, entertainment lawyer, theatre critic, just to name a few. An integrated course of study is a wonderful idea. I just think it’s a little premature at this point.

You might want to post your question on the Theatre and Journalism forums as well if you are looking for other opinions on double majors, minors, etc. Good luck! :)

@sandkmom, thanks for the information
yes, i did research on all of the schools i applied to, and they have at least three majors each i am interested in. (probably a double major and a minor)
and all theatre programs are BA only, not BFA. so, as i said, i would really love to pursue theatre, but considering the others are interests of mine, i would not mind them as fallbacks.
and yes! actually entertainment law is something i am considering :D
