Majors&Minors

is it real hard to minor in 1 area that has nothing to do with your major ??

im in the Smith business school [not exactly sure what my major is yet, possibly Finance or operations/supply management] but ive always had this passion for acting lol it was always 1 of my dreams but i dont wana major in theater/acting and end up not making it with no other degree to fall back on so yeah

i was thinkin of majoring in the business field with a minor in theater, would that work out ?? haha im just thinkin if my acting dreams never come true then i still have my business degree to get a job in

WOW, those are 2 opposite of the ends of the spectrum. I was expecting something like Business and politics or fashion design when I read the 1st sentence! I could at least make the connection, but I have no idea how to connect a bus major with theatre minor for employment purposes.

I have no answer, but just had to add in my OMG shock value.

It would be doable, but I don’t think UMD has a minor in theater. Honestly, you could probably double major in it, or just take the classes for fun.

Theater like fine arts is one of those majors that can consume loads and loads of time. If you can handle it, I don’t see why you shouldn’t give it a go. Our S is in the Smith school and also majoring in Econ and Math with a minor at The Center for International Development and Conflict Management.

I say study any and all area that interest you, it’s a luxury you may not be able to afford later in life. Just be smart about time commitments. BTW, the business of entertainment could be a very attractive area for you.

Yea i know its opposite haha, but somebodynew thanks for pointing that out lol i didnt realize… a double major would probably be too much since the classes dont even overlap

and maximum that does sound like an interesting area

Even if the classes don’t overlap, double majoring isn’t too bad. My friend did government and psych (and minored in Spanish), and I have another friend who is Bio and English.
