Majors @ UCSD.

Hey guys and gals!
I was just wondering, is electrical engineering an impacted major at UCSD? If you are applying with a non-impacted major, is it "easier?"

as far as i know, it isn’t impacted.
yea it will be “easier”, but it will be hard to switch to ur desired major once you get in, unless it is within the engineering field. but it’s always risky

That is my desired major. I really want to go to UCSD but my GPA is slightly on the low side. But thanks for the answer!

It will NOT be easier to get into UCSD by applying to a non-impacted major if that’s what you were asking.

Okay. I get mixed answers on it. People say it’s more relaxed or something. Others say no so… It’s fine, I’ll try my best to “shine.”

Hm. Let me make sure I answered your question because I’m not sure I did.

As far as applying to UCSD, your chances of getting into the university does not depend on the major you pick. Even if you applied to an impacted major, they first admit you into the university and then consider you for the major. So if you didn’t get the major they would admit you undeclared and then you could switch into any non-impacted major or try to reapply to the impacted major later, but it is not guaranteed that you would get in. Other university do not necessarily work the same way. This is just for UCSD.

Electrical Engineering is currently not an impacted major at UCSD. If you got into the university, you would get that major (but like I said, picking a different major would not make it easier to get into the university). If your question is if other engineering majors were easier in general compared to Electrical Engineering, I don’t know the answer to that since I haven’t taken any engineering classes.

All of that considered, I would definitely apply for Electrical Engineering if that’s what you want to do. It’s always good to keep an open mind to your other options, but definitely go with what you think will make you the happiest in the end.

Yes that answers it, thanks. I’ll try my best to get into UCSD. So far my GPA is looking lower but I’m only a Sophomore and there’s still a year and some terms more to improve! I plan on studying SAT in summer and score 2200+ will help me correct? Anyways yes. Thanks for the answer and that type of engineering will make me happy.
