Does anybody know how easy or difficult it will be to switch from a Visual Arts major to say Structural Engineering or General Biology (both of which I believe are not impacted)? Have about Electrical Engineering (I heard it’s not going to be impacted next year)? When would I make this major change?

Where did you hear that electrical engineering isnt going to be impacted next year?

I highly doubt it...its one of the most impacted majors on campus.

This is straight from the ECE website...

Exceptional Admissions
If you were not admitted directly to Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering, but still want to attempt to enter, you must use the exceptional admissions program. Guidelines are below, as well as the required form: Requirements for consideration. Meeting these requirements does not guarantee admission. -Minimum 3 quarters of study at UCSD -Overall UCSD GPA at least 3.5 -Two ECE, CSE, Math or Science Courses, such as Bio, Phys, Chem, other Engr -Course plan to ensure timely graduation under a reasonable course load -Personal statement -Official UCSD transcript (An academic history printout from StudentLink is not acceptable.) -Application must be submitted to an ECE Undergraduate Advisor.

Here's the application form to try to get into the ECE department...

djdooey, ee isnt impacted--impacted meanst that you have to be admitted directly through freshman admissions. according to you post, you still can get into EE, just really difficult. impacted is typically impossible

No i think you are wrong

What is an impacted major and how does it affect my chances of getting into engineering?
Student demand exceeds program capacity in six of our undergraduate engineering majors and these majors have been designated as impacted:

Bioengineering
Bioengineering: biotechnology
Computer science
Computer engineering (CSE department)
Computer engineering (ECE department)
Electrical engineering

Impacted Majors are majors to which, owing to limited departmental resources, more students apply than can be accepted. Applicants to impacted majors must go through a secondary screening process in addition to the UCSD Admissions Office Comprehensive Review.

Straight from the Jacobs School of Engineering website....

Just because it is impacted does not mean it is impossible to get in.

So EE is still impacted...trust me, i go to ucsd for that major

Is Computer Science B.A. & B.S. both impacted? I`m under Management Science major right now but I was thinking about double majoring and taking up Computer Science as well. Since CS is impacted, is my plan impossible then ?

you should really call and ask the department, because although everywhere on the internet it says EE is impacted i contacted Noemy Ellis and for fall 2006 EE isnt impacted so, call and find out for yourself.

ooOOo yay i kind of wanted to do EE instead of bioeng: premed.

does that mean it was easy to get into bioengineering: premed?
I was happy that I got accepted into that major, but I guess not so much anymore...

it isnt easy but definately not as hard as bioengin or bioegin:biotech

so if EE isnt pacted for fall 2006...does that mean anyone who wants to switch into that major can get in? I dont think its like that, but if its not impacted what does that mean?

well for all the other nonimpacted engin majors any of the fall 2006admits can switch in if they want.

well i originally got into UCSD as mechanical eng, but I switched into EE liek 2 weeks after acceptances came out...so i dunno. Im sure they dont have an unlimited umber of spaces. I asked to be switched early, and they said that they had to see how much space was available, so call and find out, they could have filled up already.
