Make up of Cawthon

Does anyone know the make up of students living in Cawthon. I know there are some learning communities there. What percent of the students belong to one of the learning communities? What percent are guys? Any information on that dorm would be great as our son tries to finalize his choices. He wants to be on Landis but is not in the honors program so he is looking at the other dorms in that area.

I suggest calling Housing for information such as this.

I did and they said they did not have that kind of information available. They could only give me the same information that is on their site describing the dorm.

I am sure that the makeup of stuidents varies each year, and this year's numbers may not be the same as next years. Since there are more girls than guys at FSU, the dorm population seems to reflect this as well. I recall in Gilchrist, for instance, there were 5 floors, 3 women and 2 men. At Cawthon, there are two LLCs: Music, and Women in Science and Engineering, so that tips the balance even further toward women. The dorm only holds about 300, so the LLC's might take up most or all of the hall. My guess is that housing probably fills up whatever spaces the LLC's don't fill with random students interested in Cawthon. Is you son interested in music?

No. Just looking for a 3rd choice dorm on Landis Green. His housing number is 56 so perhaps he will get one of his first two- Gilchrist and Broward.

I would be extremely surprised if he didn't get his first choice with #56 priority number.

I am #21, and I would be upset it I didn't get my top 2 (Landis or Gilchrist)

From what I learned last year, Cawthorn is all filled with Learning Communities students- Music, Women in Math & Science, and 1 other, I believe. I think they occasionally change locations of different LC's, so next year may be different. My son still put Cawthorn down as a choice, in the event a single slot opened up. In fact, I think he put Cawthorn before Gilchrist, just on that off chance (while not majoring in music, he loves music and wanted to have access to the practice rooms in Cawthorn). He got Gilchrist, which was for all practical purposes his first choice. His priority number was below 200. So if there are a few slots in Cawthorn they go fast!

Based on his friend's choices last year, Wildwood seems to be most everyone's first choice. With over 700 slots there, (compared to the lows numbers at the east campus dorms- 150-350 +/-) if it holds true again this year, then any low number is likely to get their first choice.

My D has #30 something and has Gilchrist and Broward for her first two choices as well!
