This is not for me, my friend, who is a guy, wants to go into theatrical make up as a career and needs help finding a school with good training in make up. He has done it for 4 shows so far at my school and has gotten better since the first. He wants to also know if he should go for a Wig/Make Up Degree or a general theatre degree with good make up classes?
I have two friends, one who does/did makeup for Wicked and one who did wigs…message me if you want me to try and hook you up.
Have him look into the School of Visual Arts.
Webster University in St. Louis has a BFA in Wig and Makeup. They accept 2-4 students each year, so probably competitive, but a great program worth exploring. http://www.webster.edu/major/wig-and-makeup-design.html . I know a few students who go there for BFA in acting and one rising Freshman for the Wig and Makeup program (who is THRILLED about it as it was her top choice).
The student I know going to Webster had also only done make up on the side to help in theater productions while in HS, so I think there’s a general understanding HS graduates aren’t going to have a TON of experience in this area like an actor might–it’s more about prospective talent and drive one would presume.
UNCSA has a degree in wigs and make-up.
CCM, too.
