Make your own Block Plan!?!

Hey guys...

I'm definitely planning on applying to CC, but I'm a little unsure of how to make my own three and half week block! Any ideas as to how to go about beginning this?!?!

The website has some examples.

Think of something you are passionate about and then dream up your ideal way of studying it for 3 1/2 weeks. Be creative. Include any field trips or study abroad you might like. My son wrote about a plan to study environmental effects of mining in Canada. Some people have written of studying an artist in Italy or doing yoga right at CC.

Partly you are showing CC one more side of yourself. Partly you are demonstrating that you really do understand the Block Plan. This is an essay to have fun with.

Alright,

So essay form is alright? I shouldn’t make it into something of an outline form, should I?

Thank you!

Again, check the CC website. Some of the essays there sound like ads for educational adventure travel. My son wrote a more serious outline of what his course would be covering every week.

I’m not sure if the examples are still on the website. I applied EA and when I was writing this essay I couldn’t find any (then again, I could have easily overlooked them).

Mine was in the form of a course description you might find in the course catalog. I designed a class studying the physics of bike racing and design, taking place alongside the Tour de France. I was intially dreading it but it turned out being kind of fun to write. Hope that helps! Good luck!

I looked around on the website for a couple examples, but I didn’t have too much luck. Alright, thank you xcrunner25! I’ll get my creative juices flowing.

Thanks!

I already did mine. When I visited I asked what format would be best and they said some people write essays and other do bullets and stuff. I did mine as an essay. Just think of an idea for a course and then say what you would do each week.

My son had a lot of fun with this one “designing” a class that could only be done as an extended period away from civilization - psychology experiments (non-evil, of course!!!) on students. He talked about the logistics, the outstanding problems with his class, etc. From what I’ve heard, he did more than was necessary, but he had fun with it (and hopes the school considers implementing it!)

I dreaded this essay as well. I ended up designing a course of biomedical ethics with field trips in which students time travel to visit several well-known scientists and philosophers. The key is to tie it into with your own interests so that it can reveal aspects about yourself that are not clearly expressed in the rest of your application.

Check out the CC Venture Grant page for inspiration:

I could not find examples of Block Plan in the website.Could anybody post the link for the examples of Block plan that we need to prepare?

I can only find one. [The Block Plan | Prospective Students](http://www.coloradocollege.edu/admission/block-plan.asp)

I feel so bad about my essay after reading this thread. I didn’t know it would be such a big deal mine was soo generic.

and i still haven’t gotten an EA acceptance i’m so nervous!

The whole school is based on the Block Plan - you need to understand what the Block Plan is and this essay is a chance to prove you understand it. If you read around the site you’ll find a lot. This is a starting place: [Colorado College | Block Plan](http://www.coloradocollege.edu/welcome/blockplan/)

Maybe it isn’t that big a deal and many of the people wrote extra! I read on another thread that someone just wrote a paragraph. And most people haven’t heard back from EA yet. Relax.

most people really haven’t heard EA yet? When does everyone find out?

I live in Colorado and am still waiting as well, so you’re definitely not the only one.
