I sent in my common app which i typed up on my computer and then printed out. I realized afterwards that I mixed up the hours per week so that i wrote yearbook 1 hr/wk and big sibling 3hrs/wk. I meant to write Yearbook 3hrs/wk and Big Sibling 1 hr/wk. Is it going to look strange that I acidently said that I spend 3 hours a week as a big sib(mentoring a freshman at my school and helping her adjust to high school). Has anyone ever heard of someone calling up a school and telling them about such an error or should I just pray it gos unnoticed?

Hey I made a big mistake too with my Common App - messed up my parents details. What can I do to rectify it? Its a pretty big mistake, so it won't go unnoticed.

Anyone Help us!

I don't think the 3 hr/ 1 hr think is that noticeable, but if it bothers you it wouldn't look bad to call/e-mail the admissions office of the mistake. It doubt they would be annoyed that you hadn't checked your app enough or that you are being overzealous by calling, and they might appreciate the honesty. But it doesn't sound like a big deal.

About the parent thing, I don't see what you could have written that was that much of a mistake, and they don't really care about parents, just you.

As long as the mistakes look like mistakes and could not be misread as cheating (in which case I think contacting the colleges would be a good idea), do whatever causes less stress: contacting the colleges, or doing nothing.

Thanks, but the mistake I made concerned my parent's marital status and addresses. Long story - I had filled in the Common App Online in September when they were still married but they had separated & had different addresses (in different countries no less) by December when I submitted the App. The Adcom's might find it a bit funny when I apply for FinAid, right?

Krux - Time to be proactive. You don't want to miss any deadlines, especially if the mail could get lost internationally. Let your folks know that some important letters may be coming to the old address. Send an e-mail to the colleges titled "PLEASE NOTE NEW ADDRESS AS OF (date)" and put down the current addresses along with your full name, your parents full (new?) names and your social security number. Check with the admissions office in a month or so and make sure the information is corrected.
