ive seen that the M:F ratio at CMU is 3:2...does anyone that goes there have any comments on this? is there noticably more guys there or does it feel mixed well

There's a bunch of threads on the topic, so use search. A summary: yes, there are more guys than girls, particularly in engineering classes, but there are still girls. Take foreign language classes or go to Pitt if you want to meet women.

All I can say is this year's freshmen girls are hot. Can hardly notice the male/female ratio now unless you're in CS Wean or something.

it is noticeable in some of my classes and not at all in some others...outside of class if you want to meet girls it's not much of a problem at all, plus pitt is really close

i'm just a freshman in h+ss though - i'm sure it's a different story in CIT (engineering) and SCS but to be honest most engineering schools will be skewed in this nature classwise

overall i'd say you can tell the "difference in ratio" if you walk around pitt but it's not a "crisis" situation at all imo

read some of the other threads too, good info

It isn't noticeable except for in my dorm, I live in Hamerschlag, an all male dorm.

For the record, I do not live in all-male dorm, but I still find the ratio very noticeable. It is apparent in dorm parties, walking around campus, and in classes. (It is true that engineering and CS have the highest ratio of males to females.)

My feeling on this is as follows. If what is most important to you is your education, go to CMU (if it's the best school you got in), and it probably won't be a big deal to you. That was the case with me and I'm very happy with the education I am receiving at CMU. If what is important to you is partying and dating, then I'd advise not even applying to CMU, let alone attending CMU. If this is true for you, it might seem to you like all the girls are taken and you can't make any headway, especially if you are a shy person and don't meet people as quickly as others.

Just my opinion, feel free to disagree, and I'm sure many of you will.

i agree with bachovchin - in fact I debated closing my post with such a statement (the "party" person he described would not be enjoying him/herself, at least not in my situation) - I'm definitely here for the education as there are a number of good schools I could have gone to with a more "active" party scene

while the male to femal ratio is noticeable, it is only a problem if u look for it. there are still plenty of girls here. Im in a fraternity and all that i can say is that the parties are always fun, whether its mostly guys or not. Usually its just because u are having a good time with your friends. If u are looking for something random, you can definately find it here if you go to the right places. And if u are looking for something more long term then that is also not too hard to find. Im a freshman here and have already pledged a frat and have a girlfriend. I never though id go greek, but its just really awesome. Anyway, my point is, the ratio is only a problem if you make it one,
