My CalSO is coming up and I need to decide what classes to take. Right now, I am looking at:
Math 16B - 2 hours lecture, 1 hours discussion
Econ 1 - 2 hours lecture, 2 hours discussion
Classics R44 (Roots of Western Civilization) - 4 hours lecture, 2 hours discussion
Breadth Class (most likely NE STUD 18 - Intro to Egypt) - time not listed
I am a Pre-Haas/Econ major. I am mainly concerned about Classics R44 cause it is more work, since it satisfies both a semester of R&C and a breadth. I don’t know the workload for Math 16B and Econ 1. I wanna know if these 4 classes are manageable, easy, or hard, so I can adjust if I need to.
Thank you so much.
If you want to apply to the business major, be aware that:
A. The business major requires one of the following for math:
B. The business major does not allow R&C courses as 7-course breadth. See http://www.haas.berkeley.edu/Undergrad/breadth_list.html .
Sounds like a good schedule. What you’re gonna need to do though is protect your gpa since you’re pre-haas. There’s a lot of time to fulfill your breadths and there’s a ton of fun ones that won’t necessarily tank your grades. I’m saying this because you have to decide which classes you want to add during your Phase 1 appointment. You can only add 10.5 units during phase 1 - the rest can be added later. Classics R44, 16B, and Econ 1 fill up really quickly so phase 1 the classes that you really need and have alternate classes for the rest if you can’t get into them during your phase 2 + later.
@ucbalumnus Wow I did not catch your point B. Thank you so much.
Also, if you are interested in the more quantitative options in the economics major, you may want to take Math 53 and 54.
Hi, I also have a question regarding the course load at UC Berkeley. I am trying to pursue a major in Molecular and Cell Biology and I have a question regarding taking 20 credits during freshman year. I am planning to do:
Chem 3A (Took Chem 1A during junior year in high school)
Chem 3AL
Scandin R5A
Pub Pol 101
Psych 1
Math 10A
Is it possible to do this or do I need to minimize my schedule to 16 credits. Please Help!!
With 20 units, be prepared to drop a course if the workload is too high. 15-16 units per semester is considered a normal workload for a full time student, although some courses may have a higher workload per unit than others.
You can try old Chemistry 1A final exams to check your knowledge:

@Coolguy1234234 consider doing psych 2 if you have the chance. It fills up quickly but i thought it was less work and easier than when my friends took psych 1
