Managing SAT study and school?

This past week, I have not even touched the bluebook. Ever since school started, I had no time to study. I'd really like to get around 2150+ (I'm at 1950~2080) by the end of next summer, but homework takes up so much of my time. It's the weekend and I'm still flooded with homework. Even though I'd like to study for the SAT, homework is more important.

How do CC'ers manage their SAT study and homework/school?

Although I don’t plan to study extensively for the SAT during the school year, I could tell you some things that I will be doing to self study APs.

Set aside a time of day that you will be doing SAT.

Try your best to do all your homework at school.

Turns out there are only two things. =/

If I had the time, I’d set aside some. But my day goes like this:
5AM-7AM: Gym
7:30AM-3:48PM : School
4:30PM-11AM~1AM: Homework

My AP World History takes up much of my time, ranging from one hour to two. Each other subject takes about one hour max per. I was thinking of using my lunchtime to study for SATS so I can fit some studying into my time or homework during lunch so I’ll have time after school. This schedule sounds sketchy though. I’m afraid that I’ll lose focus on the SATS and sidetrack from my goal of 2150.

Ahnette, I had the same problem you did with finding time. The only way I found I would effective study for the SAT was to forcibly set aside time to prepare for the SAT. Like you my day is full of homework, tutoring, and clubs.

6:30 am-Wake Up
7:00 am- Leave for School
7:30 am- Officer Meeting for various clubs (T,W,T,F)
8:15-3:00 PM- School
3:15-4:15- Club Meetings (M,T,W,T)
4:30-5:30- Volunteer Tutoring
6:00- Get home
6:15-7:15- SAT Time (Comes first before everything else)
7:15-7:45- Dinner
8:00-12- IB Homework/AP Homework/AP Self-studies.

For me personally, the key is to force myself to block an hour (or how many you plan on studying) out before doing anything else. On rare occasions I will drop the hour if homework becomes overwhelming (I make it point to stop at 12 at the latest, not a minute later).

As for studying during lunchtime, I bring flashcards with me when I wait in line for lunch, that’s about it. After that, I just sit with my friends, sometimes I get them involved with the flashcards, but most the time the only cards on the table are for Spades

Ah, your schedule seems so full, iScore. I have not joined any clubs nor sports yet because it’s still the beginning of the school year. So I’ll need to add that to the list of to-do’s. Sometimes I feel as if I have too much to juggle around, since every teacher is expecting so much. I might go for the lunch study thing, maybe a section or two a day.

Although I have no idea what the intensity of your classes is, I can advise you try to cut the homework to a minimum. Even though teachers don’t like it, I would secretly try to do all my homework during classes. After the school gets running for a while and you get to know your teachers’ grading style more, you should try to do the minimum effort to get an A. For example: spend 15 minutes on a piece of homework for a 90-95 quality type of work instead of 20 - 30 minutes on a piece of homework for a 100 quality. In other words: don’t try to be perfect.
