My son just got an email from admissions at MSM. I won’t know what it says until he gets home but just thought I would spread the word. Email came in at 2:08 p.m. CST. Good luck everyone!

Good luck to you Pukadad!!!

Good luck!! Keep us posted! Is MSM his first choice? (you could open it and then mark it as “new”… but, forget I said that!)

Believe me, I’ve thought about it but he texted me this morning and said not to check. (he doesn’t know that based on his follow-thru or lack there of, I set my email up to get a copy of all his college emails sent to my inbox!) My conscience had me delete and discard without opening-all the self control I could muster) MSM is his second choice (IU Jacobs is #1 and we are still waiting on music merit $'s there) We all REALLY loved MSM and all the people there so it will be a contender. I’ll post as soon as I know.

MSM was the weakest of all my son’s schools for merit aid. Their own anticipated costs, before the merit scholarship and secondary lessons, was $52K, and that was a year ago. The second set of lessons would easily have been $10K a year. It was a mind boggling amount of money to consider, and their merit aid was a drop in the bucket of that cost.

I hope your son gets a much better offer than mine did!

Thanks Allmusic. Even without knowing the music merit at Indiana, it is really a great value. Besides that, the percussion faculty and the design of their program really works for my son. You just want to know all the options before you make that final decision. What kind of merit did they offer? I seem to recall them saying that the most typical merit scholarship was 50% off tuition (approx. $15,000). Thanks.

Good luck, all! I like MSM, too. I think if I had decided to go the conservatory route, I would have wanted to go there.

My daughter was accepted to MSM today, but loans only, no merit aid. So we can cross that school off our list, although she really liked the teacher and the teacher seemed to really like her.

My S did not get accepted to MSM today. Some disappointmet here but all is well. IU has always been his number one choice and the best fit so there won’t be any sleepless nights trying to decide. He would have had to get $30k in merit to have even made it close a d that wasn’t going to happen. Congrats to all who were accepted. It is a GREAT place.

Pukadad – Always hard to be turned down, but he’ll love IU! Good luck to him.

We’ll welcome him to Indiana, Pukadad!

My daughter (not a percussion major) was accepted today to MSM with about $33K of merit aid. She is thrilled, but also wise enough not to make a final decision until all the mail is in. It sounds like a lot of money, but…

She was waitlisted at Michigan, so this was an important ego boost for her.

Bluepearl and others,

Congrats on the acceptances!

Bluepearl, based on the feedback I’ve heard from others in the past 5 or so years, your financial aid “offer” is not uncommon from MSM for violins - even very good violinists. In fact, MSM’s “loan only offers” are generally totally out of line with merit grants from other conservatories and fine music schools the kids end up receiving. I know some darn good student violinists who, like your D have had great lessons with potential teachers, who have gone elsewhere becasue MSM didn’t offer any real $$$. Ah well, MSM doesn’t know what they are missing!

Best of luck to all with the remaining returns!

Thanks Fiddlestix for the congrats. I had heard about poor financial aid from MSM, also, but thought it worth a try. It is looking more and more like IU for my daughter.
