So this school is one of my top choices to transfer to from my community college..and since the school is not very grade-driven, how do I know my admissibility to the college? Are those who are former slackers yet are now enjoying the rigors of academics able to survive and adapt to the Reed environment?

Also, if I can get some light on Reed's academics, and campus-life, that would be awesome...

Weird, I thought I had replied to this a while back… ? Oh well.

Reeds is fairly grades-driven in terms of admission to the school. You have to have a pretty solid academic background to get in. I suppose a bit of slacking off might be overlooked, but like a C average in community college would really hurt your chances.

It isn’t as grades-driven in terms of competition between students and grades being the focus of the classes. Professors usually give extensive feedback to students without letting them know their actual grades (unless the student is failing). If a student wants to know his final grades, the student has to specifically request their transcript or something…

I think former slackers who attend Reed would face a fairly sharp learning curve when they get there… the studying and academics are really intense, and you’d have to un-learn a bunch of bad study habits. Definitely research the school a bit more-- sites like [Reedwatcher[/url] , www..com](Reed Community Posting Board — LiveJournal) , and www..com might give you a little more insight into academics and campus life.

REALLY? Collegeconfidential EDITS OUT competing college-discussion websites? WTH? Well, spelled backwards those sites were moc.oginU and moc.relworPegelloC

Hahaha wow, that’s ridiculous!

I’ve seen links on CC with a huge number of asterisks in their addresses but absolutely hv no idea what those stand for. Now I know!

@ racheljps,
Thanks for the great info on Reed! I actually am in a CC right now, and although I have a 4.0, I’m kind of worried about whether I will be able to acclimate to the academic environment.

I will definitely do more research though
