I’m an out of state student and when I applied for housing I signed up for Manzanita hall. When I went to orientation and told other students that I would be in Manzanita next year the majority of the students from the phoenix area either laughed at me or looked at me like I was crazy. What goes on in Manzanita? After these reactions I feel the need to prepare myself…

"Manzy" is known as the party dorm.It has a leftover reputation from years past. Its also the largest dorm on the campus, over 900 beds I think. Good points are it has its own dining hall and the location is good. Did you get to see it while you were there? When D went to ASU (she was Honors and lived in Best and then Hayden) she had friends in San Pablo, the newest hall on that north side of campus.Very nice inside.

Well based on reactions, this reputation seems far from "left over", since my last post I talked to a guy that I used to go to school with that told me the dorm was still crazy. He's a sophmore this year and he told me that he can't remember most nights because he was so waisted, he spent his freshmen year in Manzanita. I'm not saying I don't want to party, I know how to get down, but my education is my focus. All dorms are "party dorms" weather parents want to hear it or not, I was just wondering what makes this one special.

if you're worried about its rep why not just change your dorm preference?

I've already paid a deposit I'd rather not go through the trouble if it's not really that bad. Plus I like the idea of living in a community that large.

We live close by and I have a soon to be junior there (she lives in Cholla) and an incoming freshmen (she will be at San Pablo) From what I've heard in the past few years is that manzanita is pretty much showing its age, and is deffinitely a party dorm. The rumor is this next year will be its last. It is not that difficult to change to a different dorm. All you have to do is write a letter to Residential Life requesting a hall change. My older daughter did this her freshmen year right after orientation.Your deposit will just be moved to whichever dorm you are in. I do know that San Pablo is full. I have seen the rooms in PV East and West and they aren't too bad. Plus they are right in the same area. What is your major? We were there for orientation just last week and I know there is still room in McAllister (the new dorm) if you are in the College of Liberal Arts and want to take a campus match. Also if you are an honors student they can usually find room in one of the honors dorms. Hayden is pretty nice except they have community bathrooms. But at least you don't have to clean them.
