hi im an incoming freshmen this year majoring in engineering… i was assigned pre calc math for my first semester and i thought there was a mistake because i had calc AP last year as a senior in HS. but since i didnt pass the AP i learned that i have to test out of pre calc to get into calculus I. go figure. anyways i was wondering if any one has taken the MAPE before?? on the cal poly web site they have some sample problems bt theres only like 6 which makes it hard to get a good read on the test. just wondering if i could get some tips on the test before i start scrambling trying to find my notebooks from years past and cramming…
thanks

To bypass Pre-Calculus and get into Calculus I, you either need: 600 or greater on your SAT Math score; 30 or greater on ACT Math. If you don’t have this, you’ll need to take the MAPE.

My daugther took the MAPE during SOAR. She had up to Precalculus Honors at her high school, but had less than 600 on her SAT Math portion- bummer. She had also taken a Calculus I community college summer class, but just missed passing the class (it was very fast paced). She only studied the sample questions and passed MAPE.

I would first contact the MAPE coordinator and explain that you’ve had AP Calc. Don’t sweat it too much. If you don’t pass it for some reason, go back to the MAPE coordinator and see if they’ll let you bypass Precalc. You’ll need to get a move on though!!! Calculus classes have filled up!!!
