Hi, I'm going to Cal Poly SLO (for business) this fall and recently found out I have to take the MAPE (Mathematics Placement Exam) during orientation, so I can move up into a higher level math class.
Right now I'm placed in Math 118, since I didn't have a high enough score on the ACT. Is that considered a really low leveled math class? Math hasn't been one of my strongest subjects, so I want to make sure I'm not in a class that will just crush me. But how low is Math 118? I'm going to study this week to make sure I do well on the MAPE exam; if anyone knows how long the test is, the number of questions specifically, that'd be great.

If anyone has taken the test already, could you give me some tips? I've already done the practice MAPE questions that are provided on the Cal Poly website.

Math 118 appears to be a remedial math course for students who are not calculus-ready. If you have had precalculus and trigonometry in high school, you should be able to test out of Math 118 and 119 and enroll in a calculus course appropriate for your major (141, 151, 161, 171, or 221).
I know this is really late to be asking you this, but did you end up passing the MAPE? I just found out that I am going to take this test in less than a week. Was it do-able? And how much did you study?
