March 2012 SAT I Critical Reading Thread

Thank goodness! I did have a CR experimental, but not the pesticide paragraph. Maybe there’s more than one experimental type…

@jerky

I put down answer A for that vocab question as well. It was illuminated…sequence.

Yes, people may have the same experimental; there’s not that many test versions! :P

It ABSOLUTELY was precipitate and confluence.

Lan, the pesticide was part of a grammar section. That was one definitely not experimental.

It was something like this:

Bob’s constant willingness to engage in arguments began to annoy even his friends, who grew tired of his (contentious) attitude

For the chaplin one, it deffinately was the author trying to perfect the sonnet or whatever. The entire second half of the passage dealt with perfectionism and there was even a question which asked what describes chaplin and it was perfectionism.

The boy was talking about how it was annoying that he couldnt get it on the first try but then he realizes from the art teacher that some just want to be perfect. The others seem close but it doesnt give off that sense of perfectionism.

Then it was the CR experimental about farming in Mexico somewhere else on the thread…

@eagles
It asked about what Chaplin sounds like. Retaking the scene 132 times = perfectionist

another vocab question that was complaining about how animals are described i think… actually i have no idea what it was talking about

but i put derisive/diffident. did anyone else put that/remember the question?

I put enmity for the one with the bird watchers…

jerkybob I remember a question like that but I don’t think derisive and diffident were in the same answer choice…

Answer was

something negative/characterization.

stressedouttt: same. for the bird watchers.

i put derisive but contentious does fit the answer better

@jbob
Yeah, derisive was 1st answer. These words ring a bell?
Naturalist, animal sociology, “(some words with negative connotations in quotations)”.

yeah I definitely remember getting an answer with the word “characterization” in it

Bird watcher one was : penchant for/enmity.

Male house wren, penchant for, bird watchers, enmity.

wait, sorry, what was the question for which derisive or contentious was the answer? I don’t remember it being one of the first ones…

What was the sentence completion about the politicians…come choices involved enthralling, havoc, ect.
