They adequately prepared my D for the exam. But she’s also a naturally good test taker so ymmv.
how the practice tests in Kaplan book are compared to the actual test?
@ringer123 Math was a little easier for me on the real thing than the practice tests but the rest was very comparable in my opinion
Sorry but I took it blind, math comes toe easily I’ve been preparing only for reading and writing these past few weeks @buffalo11
@Harryp17 You are done buddy! Congratulations! Best of luck.
How is a 1460(2090 converted to old) for a school like Georgetown or BC? Any chance for BC honors with that score? Applying for business for both.
The SAT Black Book is still a good resource. However, make sure you read about what has been added for the math section: the only things added are i (imaginary numbers) and trig. In other words, it’s the ACT Black Book Math. And make sure you practice the four practice tests. Math questions aren’t quite the same, although the math section covers mostly the same material.
Everything about the other sections still apply: read carefully. There is more emphasis on “in context”.
@Classof2017 I know a lot about BC admissions. I’m not sure you can get into CSOM (their b school) with that score, to be perfectly honest. You MIGHT if you have a great GPA and a great essay. I would say honors is a long shot, unfortunately. The score is low for Georgetown business or liberal arts.
You might want to consider applying to BC liberal arts. They don’t advertise it much but BC does have a business minor for students that are in Morrissey (liberal arts school). My daughter just finished her first year at BC in the business school and in her stats class they said that BC might start publishing the fact that their acceptance rate for the b school is so much lower than the rest of the school. I think BC publishes about a 30% admissions rate but the B school admissions rate is more like a 17 or 18%, she was told which makes sense.
But if you definitely know you want business, you probably should apply business because they make it very hard to transfer into the B school…very hard.
If you have legacy, it’s a different story. Good luck!
Son who is currently sophmore got 1550. 780 EBRW and 770 math. He is interested in schools like Williams or IVY. He has strong grades and extra-curriculars. Opinions on value of taking again for the few additional points? Sure he would love to focus on other stuff if not.
You must be kidding, right?
Son should move on. I was a one and done without perfect scores, and I am happy that I wasted no further time in prepping. Colleges like the Ivy League and top LAC’s put a lot of emphasis on things other than scores. He has passed the threshold, and really should devote his time to other aspects of the application process. The downside of taking the test again (aside from a decrease in scores) is that the AO may roll his/her eyes and say, “Oh great. Another drone with nothing better to do with his time than taking tests.”
Agree with the above posts. You will have to report all tests for a lot, if not all Ivys, so move on and be happy with this outstanding score! Congrats!
@skieurope is dead right on that. There is zero to be gained by trying to get those last 50 points and much to be lost (opportunity cost).
That time your son would’ve wasted chasing a perfect SAT score, use it by taking him to the movies or go have some ice cream with him.
Your son will grow up faster than you know.
Really poignant. Thank you.
I got a 1520 (760+760) and a 15 in the essay.
I’m trying for Rice, Georgia tech, CMU etc
Should I retake it?
@artetc - nope. Well done! Now do bigger and better things with your time, the stuff that will (A) make you a better applicant and (more importantly) (B) make you a more interesting person.
@marvin100 - Thanks. However, the conversion tables show 2210 as my score in the old SAT. Don’t I need a 2300 or at least a 2250+ for the top schools?
@artetc - I’ve always found that 750+ in each section is the end goal (rather than some combined score–1510 could be 800/710 which isn’t as good as 750/750).
@artetc you do not “need” a particular school to get into top schools. Stop worrying and stressing about false information. If colleges were to admit students based solely on scores, that will be one very homogeneous class.
