March and "A" Day

Ok, two quick questions? On the CBT March Back, what time of day is that usually done at? early in the day, or later? and the Acceptance Day Parade, same question, early or later in the day? AND actually three questions? which one would be more important to attend?

The timing for the Marchback has changed in recent years - this year they stepped off at dawn and got to the Supe's house around noon.

The Acceptance day parade is held in the morning. I think around 10 am.

Acceptance Day is more important to attend - definitely. They will get walking privledges after the parade for the rest of the weekend so you can plan on seeing them after the parade until taps and again on Sunday.

You cannot speak to them or touch them at March Back. If you have to choose, go w/ A day, hands down. On A day, you take them back to your hotel, they put on civvies, and you get to love on them...it sure went fast, but was so worthwhile!

I don't know about civvies, but anyway having parents at A-Day is a lot better.

quick question: on A day, if you are allowed to take them back to your hotel, does the hotel have to be in highland falls or can you venture across to cold springs or garrison?

IN prior years - you have to stay within "walking priviledges" - this is a pretty small area generally encompassing Highland falls and south to the Bear Mt bridge traffic circle. Not across the river, or north to Newburgh.
They will give you the specific parameters.

In prior years, you did have to stay in HF, however, this year cadet could return to your hotel if it was outside walking priv....there is NO GUARANTEE this will be the case for 2013. The cadets cannot sleep at parents' hotel; they must return to barracks. Although there are a few hotels in HF, there are really no bargains...recently everyone has significantly raised rates. We did stay in HF and it was sooo convenient.

Yeah that's right - how quickly we forget!
I stayed within walking priv - and it was very very convenient. There is a lot of back and forth. I think the radius was something like 50 miles but there were special rules - no shopping or stopping to eat outside of walking priv. Just back and forth to the hotel.

If you are going to book early - you can always change or cancel your booking - I would suggest getting a hotel within walking priv.
They had to be back at Taps - think about how far you want to drive them back to post late at night!

Not the case with the Thayer hotel. My mom had to pay for a room she didn't use because I wasn't there on A-day.

FYI: there is a ticket & hotel exchange available to parents. I am not sure if the Thayer would allow the room to be re-sold to a third party, but this is an option for other hotels and for football tickets. We booked our R day hotel in January and A day by March. Same with airline tickets.
