March SAT Math Thread

i’m just wondering if a had the first square a side with 10root2 so the second square had a side of 20 and the largest square had a side of 20root2 which concludes to 800.
i’m not sure but i guess i came up with an answer based on the number that was given…

thanks for highly doubting me but i know that i had three squares and i know i was given the length of 10.

I’m trying to recollect how I even got 800 as an answer because I didn’t use any overly complicated formula, but I got it…soooo, yea.

^Same here. The underlying concept was pretty easy - it was just testing 45 - 45 -90 triangles.

I used special right triangles lol. I think 10sqr(2) was the side length of the smallest square so the second square had a side length of 20 and the third/largest had a side length of 20sqr(2) based off of 45-45-90 triangles.

hmmmm, I don’t know. I’ve been posting on this thread on and off for 9 hours straight. :x.

That’s actually what I was just doing (using 90 degree angles). I just like to be very thorough.

I suppose you could’ve just eyeballed it too. In fact, the smallest square appeared to fit in the biggest one 4 times. 4*200 = 800.

Sorry, that might have come off too harshly. I’m just doubting there being different phrasings on a non-experimental math section. I could very well be the one who’s wrong.

i loveyouz- I believe I had the same thing as well, and I also got 400. Is it possible that this question, and this question only, was different for some people based on test form. Sounds a bit absurd, but I was fairly sure of my answer.

i don’t think only one question can be different for some people…
urrrrr i just can’t remember my exact answer…:(

I don’t know why, but I feel like I misbubbled now for some reason. :l

just wait until fools day, and we’ll see if we were all right about this.

Matt, don’t doubt yourself. I’m sure there were different versions, since there are a large number of people who got each answer.

What if the Collegeboard showed everyone’s score 400 points lower than it actually was as an April Fool’s Joke. I’m not sure I would survive the initial shock.

I’ll make sure to have smelling salts handy when I look at my score if they are gonna do that!

Now I really hope they do that. I’d laugh so hard, since it’d be immediately apparent that they were kidding. What I’d really love though is the negative scores from some of my classmates.

just wanted to let everyone know, today i clearly watched two kids switch scantrons after the test. they really thought no one would tell on them?

You should have told the proctor, I would have. I’m gathering these kids aren’t smart anyway and know that they probably have different scantrons.

does anyone remember the X^2 - y^2 question with (X+2)^2 or something. It was asking which were positive, I, II, or III?

oh i told the people… they didn’t believe me. but eventually i had enough evidence to convince the lady. but she said why didn’t you tell me when i was collecting the scantrons. I was like are you dumb, there’s no difference between then and now, besides the fact that I don’t get shot by the two kids who did this. literally said the shooting thing :)
