March SAT Writing Thread

Can somebody write out the whole questions for the portraits or painting question you’re talking about. I’m drawing a blank.

if this helps

In choice C

the word “portraits” was the last word I think so “depictions” came before in the sentence

its one must study rock formations because otherwise it would be a misplaced modifier

the question about the portraits, since the first part of the sentence was talking about other patriots, the second half has to start with portraits in order to be parallel, so no, its not the subjects

portrait is ‘c’
did anyone choose “wrote” for one of the first error id or was this experimental possibly

For the ensemble soloist question I underlined “whom have succeeded” because whom is the object pronoun, and since the people in question are doing the action, it should be subject pronoun.

For instance, you would say “Who has succeeded?”, not “Whom has succeeded?”

Wouldn’t soloist be singular because it follows “all” which is singular?

I believe you are right:

Consolidated Writing Section

Section (Long):

Sentence Improvement:
The emperor penguin [__], the average standing at 45 inches tall. Answer was C.

Indian writer that used colloquial English (middle right of first page)
Unathletic boy who became adept at Ultimate Frisbee (bottom left of second page)

Idiom Errors:
succeeded in –> should be succeeded at

Redundancy Errors:
return back (top right of second page)

Subj/Verb:

Tense:
Had went
Have —> Had (romans concrete)

Paragraph Improvement:

Section 10:
Last 5 answers were E - D - E - E - E
Elections as a result of either … or …
Portraits question (last one) was misplaced modifier. Answer was E.
but, according to (other answers had comma splices)
Even though they hate each other, Susan and Maxime are good friends and they even write children’s stories together.
In order to succeed at geology, one must study actual rock formations.(Misplaced Modifier error)

As of now, there is a slight disagreement over the last question in section 10 at whether it was C or E.
Can people put their reasons for picking what they pick?
This is what is currently said:
C : depictions came first and it is correct because of a pronoun error
E : portraits came first and it is correct because of misplaced modifier.

Okay I’m freaking out

was anyone else’s essay question: is moderation the key to excellence/ success???!!!

@myb

why do u think the portrait question is “C”?

Also, @doublas, I dont remember that at all

maybe exp
?

No college it certainly wasn’t.

I picked E.

Option C was something like “depictions in the portraits were unflattering.”
Option E was something like “portraits depicted their subjects in an unflattering light.”

The subjects are possessed by the portraits— it’s perfectly acceptable. Ex. the subject of the Mona Lisa is a woman.

What is this ensemble soloist question? I dont remember it at all.

Agreed.

False Comparison:
three soloists in an ensemble (D: a soloist)

Section 10:
Last 5 answers were E - D - E - E - E

Portraits question (last one) was misplaced modifier. Answer was E.
but, according to (other answers had comma splices)
Even though they hate each other, Susan and Maxime are good friends and they even write children’s stories together.
In order to succeed at geology, one must study actual rock formations.(Misplaced Modifier error)
E: portraits are first word (misplaced modifier)

However right this may be, there is an even more blatant error: False Comparison.
The sentence says: Three people are regarded as a soloist. Clearly, when the sentence is simplified like this, ‘a soloist’ should be replaced with ‘soloists’.

This was a question between 26-29 in Section 3 writing.
The three musicians were referred to as a soloist instead of as soloists.

Do you remember now mabs?

What was the answer to the one about students taking a film class? Was it something like not only because… but also because? I was a little thrown off by that one.

umm soooooo am i crazy? i’m pretty sure my essay was about moderation… anyone gonna back me up?

No, sorry, you’re crazy.

somewhat

Can anyone write out as much of the question as they can remember?

edit: this is about the soloists question

Also, in Error ID, did anyone put “lay” cause it should have been “lays”

For the film-maker, best option is “were he to be given”

Can someone please write out the film students question? I forget it and remember it was very tough.

^^
yes i confirm that lay should have been lays in Error ID

I can’t remember the exact question but i do remember 3 weird names, whom succeeded, and as a soloist all in the question.

^
Confirm that film-maker should be ‘were he to be given extra money he would have wasted it all on special effects’
