hey, for those of you that sent in an audition tape for the marching band, how long did you have to wait before you got the results?

i'm in the same boat. I sent my audition by e-mail last month (June 14) and I still haven't heard back from them.

bump. :) yeah, I sent mine by email too, but only last week. Just wanna know how long we're expected to wait.

yeah, hopefully we both find out soon. I REALLY want to be in band next year :)

you guys get to go to notre dame!!!!!!!!!!

they've been talking about this trip since like 2 years ago haha.

I talked to the assistant director of the marching band and she said decisions for marching band won't come out until mid-August or so. If you don't hear anything by then you should give the music department, namely marching band, a call.

^thanks for that heads up ipandoy :)

oh really? but I heard that some people found out already.

Well that may be true. I guess I didn't specify enough, I don't know. But when I went in for a live audition, the assistanat director said that I'll get a response in the mail mid-August, but then again I'm a flute player and heck, competition is fierce and they want to give all auditions a fair look before deciding anything. This would probably apply for clarinets and saxophones but not moreso than flutes. As for brass instruments, you guys have a better shot at making the band. Heck, Gordon loves brass! He'll take just about anyone, given that they have an urge to learn and get better.

yeah i'm a clarinet, so good luck to both of us ipandoy, lol ;)

true about brass. every year at least one the tuba players are experiencing their first time either marching or playing tuba.

i think most people make it. there's going to be a surplus of some instruments (usually flutes and clarinets), so then you guys rank during band camp and those who ranked lowest become alternates. that means youre still in the band and do all the games, but u dont get to perform every halftime show.

mid-august sounds about right. band camp is late september.

what do you mean by rank? like do we do like another mini-audition at band camp so they see how we play and rank us from there?

I'm guessing it'll be more like seating auditions? haha, I play flute too, ipandoy. If I don't make it in.... I think I'll just go up to Gordon and tell him I wanna try tuba :P

I auditioned for marching band playing trombone last monday and Mr. Henderson said I would hear within a week. Well that same week, on thursday I got my acceptance letter! I guess you guys are right about how he loves brass =) He also said the trombone section is going to be HUGE this year...40 trombones! He said it's going to be the largest section and he's never seen it like that before.

you guys can call him gordon. he doesnt like being called mr. henderson.

if a section has more players than spots available on the drill, then your section leaders will rank you based on marching and/or playing ability.

i remember during band camp, they asked some flutes or clarinets who ranked as alternates if they wanted to do flags my year. last year and for this year, they asked for tubas. i know at least one current tuba player who just switched from flute. another switched from sax. there's always some brass spots available....

kfc4u, what do you play? Just wondering.

i played tuba. :)

of course i learned that instrument over the summer cuz i had never played tuba before. i marched baritone in high school and i play bassoon for concert band (before i could switch to bassoon during elementary school, i had to prep on the same instrument that you play, sofakingwangsta ;))

2nd from left. yay.

haha nice. Damn you guys must be roasting in those uniforms...

whoooo I just got my acceptance in the mail today! :) Exactly one week from the day I sent in my audition stuff by email.
