My son has been in Marching band since 7th grade and is wanting to join the band at Miami. He will not be a music major. How hard is it to join the band? He plays the drums snare and bass. Any information about the band would be appreciated. Thanks

I'm not sure about the band, but the admissions reps told me that it was very easy to get involved with music if you aren't a music major. I'm interested in either orchestra or private lessons and they were positive that I would be able to participate.

Cash Mom-
Contact the director directly and ask him that question. I believe they have try-outs like any other school and since it is an extra-curricular, I see no reason why your son would not be able to participate in try-outs.

BTW-Have you ever heard the MU marching band? It is fantastic!!! There are clips on the Miami website of them playing, but in real life...whoa, they are great. Saw them at homecoming and also got to observe them prepping for the game as well as when they "escorted" the team down to the stadium for prep-game warm up. It was really exciting.
