can I join the drumline if I am a non music major? Also, would I be able to get a scholarship?

If you don't mind me expanding on this question...how competitive is the marching band? I play my instrument (piccolo) very well, but I was only able to march freshman year because I moved to a school with no marching band. How do they audition?

I think it s pretty competitive, my friend plays piccolo in the marching band. She got in this year, but not last year..and she marched all throughout high school.

Well i was in marching band as a freshman this year and they took everyone who
auditioned on the piccolo, clarinet and sax. It just depends on how many people are auditioning. I think the part to worry about is surviving band camp. It is no joke, I came from a competitive marching band and Michigan's band camp was like 20x's as hard...thats why I quit. My shins swelled up and u basically blow out your knee because of the highstep marchind. U literally slam your feet into concrete and do that for about two hours...I remember drugging myself with advil to num the pain...lol. Oh it also takes up a lot of your time and u have to audition to march on the fied and trust me, not many first years or even sophmores even march for the whole year. If you dont make block you basically go to the reserve field and do basics i.e. high step.

oh yeah, band camp is nine hours a day, for two weeks. and it includes weekends.
