Marketing at Bentley

Does anyone know how well marketing majors have been able to find jobs after graduating from Bentley?

This is just from what I have read, but I think they have the most trouble out of all majors.

I'm not very knowledgeable though, so don't take my word for it.

Marketing is about selling yourself. If you get good grades, and you do a great job selling yourself, you should have no trouble geting a good job. Do a great senior project or do a project that will make you stand out well, and you should be able to get a fine job.

well, i have a friend at bentley who is majoring in marketing. he is a senior and apparently he's having an incredibly tough time finding a job because of his major. he talked with his academic advisor and got a recommendation to go to grad school for a masters in accounting, of all things. it's not like a bad gpa is getting in the way. his advisor basically shot straight with him and said he would have an easier time finding a job in the accounting field. i'm still not entirely encouraged by his advisor's suggestion.

bentley simply does not offer much value in any major besides accounting or finance. the job market has become very competitve lately. marketing, management, IDCC, and liberal arts majors will have a rough ride coming from bentley. very few seniors i know who are majoring in the above have any offers as of yet.

Krazyk's opinions, and be certain that they are HIS opinions, are again misleading based on his widespread prejudice against Bentley. If you read almost every recent post, he is slaming the school under the guise of being "fair."

Marketing majors, management majors and liberal arts majors at almost EVERY school that I am aware of ( with the exception of a very few top schools) are having a hard time geting jobs. It ISN"T endemic to Bentley as Krazyk would have you believe. Marketing can get you a job,but you really need to look around a lot. I have a friend's son who got a job with CBS.

If you are willing to go into sales, there are unlimited opportunities. However, you have to like and be good at sales.

However, with that said, you will have more opportunites (not counting sales jobs) as an accounting major or finance major or a major in some form of computers.

Also, actuaral studies can get you some good jobs too.

Krazyk's problem is that he thinks that all of the problems that have occured to him and/or friends are due to his attending Bentley such as HIS inability to get an internship despite having a 3.9, or his friend's tough job hunt due to being a marketing major. These are NOT endemic to Bentley as Krazyk doesn't understand. Geting your first job and especially geting internships are VERY TOUGH for almost any student everywhere with the exception of the top kids form the top schools. You have to sell yourself. You have to have a decently prepared resume and do well on interviews. It is doable, but you just need to work at it longer and harder than you would if you graduated from Wharton with the same GPA.

hawkjs,

bentley simply does not do a very good job of placing marketing majors after graduation. here is page 1 from the school's recruiting website to give prospective marketing majors a look at the job offers available to them:

I think the quality of job placements is a lot more important than the number of placements. Bentley can say, rightly, that the majority of their graduates found a job within six months of graduation. However, a job at McDonalds is still a job, and it counts. I think prospective marketing majors will get an idea of what they can expect upon being a senior. Teaching English can be done not only in Korea but anywhere in the world if you have a bachelor's degree. Paid survey takers? Work from home online? If I were paying $42k a year to come to Bentley, I would at least hope they would get rid of some of these listings, many of which can be found in your local classifieds.
